Custos Consort early music ensemble

Custos Consort has been playing a significant role in Hungary’s early music life for a long time. From the moment of its formation, the Consort has been striving for the authentic performance of the so-called early music but it also seeks to meet today’s needs. Due to its variety of performers, the audience can hear them in forms of small ensembles as well as a chamber orchestra at their concerts. Their musical instruments, sometimes believed to be forgotten, such as viola da gamba, blockflöte, the medieval harp and lutes, make their performances a colorful, versatile whole.

Their repertoire extends from the early Renaissance through the Baroque ages to the classical compositions for baritone and chamber orchestra.

In their programs, a priority is given to the music of the late Medieval Ages, and to the presentation of the Viola da Gamba compositions of the late French Baroque period. Since the repertoire and the orchestration of the Consort requires it, various artists of the consort perform different programs, allowing the most prominent performers of the given era to fascinate their audience.

In 2009, Custos Consort won the grand prize of the Chamber Orchestra Festival in Kőszeg, Hungary. Members of the Consort have made numerous CD recordings with Hungaroton and other record publishing companies. Apart from Hungary, they have been performing in concert halls of the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Croatia and India. Several critics have published appreciative articles about their concerts and recordings.
